Day Trading Without Fear

March 5th, 2010 Peter Skonctue No comments

Have you ever wanted to become a day trader? Many people have, but many people also share a common fear: the fear that they will fail. What you need to do is grab an artificial intelligence program, and seen enough the trades will seem incredibly easy.

A day trader is a stock trader who holds a position with a stock for only a very limited time – sometimes merely several minutes – before he makes a trade with that stock. People who practice this are called day traders because most of their positions are opened, and closed, in the same trading day. “Buy and hold” strategies are not for them.

The biggest problem with day trading is that it is almost seen as a form of gambling. This is perfectly understandable when you consider the number of day traders out there that lose money rather than making money. The thing is though, there is such a thing as a professional gambler.

Day traders need to have their timing perfect, which brings about the issue of market timing. This is where the investor attempts to make a prediction on the direction that the market will take. There is electronic data that will help to determine this, and there are even technical indicators. These will tell you when to sell, and when to buy.

Many investors though, think that the market is something that cannot be timed. There are many variables, and many inconsistencies. They believe they are way too complex, but there are traders who disagree and do their best to time the market. Well, 90% of day traders lose money in the market rather than making money.

Risk goes with the territory in active day trading. Then you have timing risk, which is the margin of error that a trader faces and deals with when they buy a certain stock. There is always a chance they they will do something wrong, and will not make as much money as possible on a given trade.

From market risk analysis comes the old adage that it is better to have “time in the market” than to “try timing the market”. Evidence for this is that the majority of institutional money managers fail to do better than a simple index fund which follows a time-in-the-market strategy of buy and hold.

In spite of the deck being stacked against them, day traders continue trying to make their fortune their way. Most lose money…but, they sense one thing that happens to be true: if the market is able to be timed correctly, they will make a killing. It’s all a matter of figuring out how to time it. If they could do that, they would have that special knowledge that we mentioned above. But is this possible?

It is possible if they use one special tool – a day trading program. These artificial intelligence (AI) programs have been around in the investment world since even before the Internet. They have become far more advanced in the last almost 20 years; and the Internet has made it possible for them to be used by many more people. Institutional money managers have used day trading robots to help them for many years, and those managers who make the best use of them are among the most successful.

Artificial intelligence can learn. It can analyze it’s past mistakes and resolve to never make them again. Like humans, they have the capacity to learn anything, but they are not like humans all all. They don’t need to sleep, they have nothing else to do. This makes them very good at learning.

As a trader, you can program your robot with your preferred trading strategy parameters, and the program will learn them and give you feedback as to how well they do over a period of time so that you can make adjustments to the program if you want to.

Day trading robots are very fast. They can move ten times faster than a human ever will, and their orders can be placed immediately. A human cannot do this by any means. In fact, there is quite a bit of lag when a human being tries to place an order which can lead to lost sales.

This means that a day trader really cannot do without a day trading robot. Don’t make the mistake of day trading without a good robot! If you sue it properly, it’s quite possible to make your fortune in day trading.

A Beginner’s Guide To Successful Day Trading

March 5th, 2010 Peter Skonctue No comments

No matter which direction the stock market seems to be going, there are always stories people learning to become successful day traders. Even during difficult down-turns in the market these people are making serious incomes from successful stock trading.

What is that the successful traders are doing that everyone else isn’t? More to the point, how is it that they manage to keep making money on their stock trades whether the market is doing well or not?

The following traits are things which those who have managed to learn successful trading techniques share:

Understanding Market Movements

Successful traders know how that the NASDAQ and other indices show only the direction of the market as a whole. At any given time, there are plenty of individual stocks which are moving in the opposite direction.

Even when the index is trending downwards, there will be stocks which are on the rise; and by the same token, there are always individual stocks which are declining as the index rises.

What this means for traders is that someone who knows how successful day trading works can often determine which stocks are going against the tide. As a result, profitable trading is possible even when the market isn’t looking in the best shape.

Risk Tolerance

Understanding and accepting your own personal levels of risk tolerance are vitally important factors if you wish to build a successful trading business. Learning about day trading from a person with a much higher level of risk tolerance means that you could potentially end up trading much more than you’re comfortable with.

Similarly, it is possible to trade at too low of a risk level if you’re taking advice from someone who is more risk averse than you are. Everyone giving you investment advice probably has only the best of intentions, but you should assess your own comfort level in order to make the best and most profitable trades on the stock market.

A Commitment To Learning

Picking stocks on the basis of someone else’s intuition isn’t something that generally leads to successful trading. Do your own research and rely on your own hunches – after getting all of the facts, that is. You should know at least a little about any company whose stock you’re interested in trading. Doing this research will help you develop the analytical skills which lead to successful day trading.

Keep Greed On The Sidelines

Truly successful stock trading means not allowing greed to get in the way of your day trading strategy. If your chosen stocks have made their profit, sell up and realize the profits. You can always buy back into the market at a later point, but you can’t always guarantee a profit unless you lock it away with a sell-trade order.

Many newer day traders set themselves a strategy and plan to sell any stocks they’ve bought once it reaches a specific point. When the values reach the point they first considered being a good sell-point, greed gets in the way and they talk themselves into waiting until the stock goes just a little higher, just a little further for just a little longer.

Be Prepared to Cut Losses

When the price of a particular stock begins to trend downwards, an experienced or more successful day trader will cut their losses and get out of the market before those losses compound any further. In fact, many of them would have set an automated stop-loss order to sell out once the price begins to fall too far.

Newer traders seem to have a different mentality where they go into a form of panic-mode and hang onto losing stocks, hoping like crazy that the price will recover and they’ll make some of their money back. In order to be successful with stock trading, you’ll need to be prepared to cut losses and continue trading.

Don’t Let Your Trades be Dictated by Your Emotions

A successful stock trading business is not an emotional venture. You need to learn to view your buying and selling as nothing more than a business transaction. Remain objective about the stocks you’ve chosen and stick firmly to your trading strategy. No matter what your heart or your gut instincts are screaming at you, run your trading business with your head. If your strategy says you should sell your stocks at a predetermined profit margin, then follow your strategy.

Use A Quality Day Trading Program

The analysis software and trading platforms you use can also make the difference between successful day trading and failing to do well in the stock market. It’s entirely possible to do well without using anything but the trading platform supplied by your stockbroker, but you may want to look at automated trading software in order to make it easy to monitor many stocks simultaneously. Some of the more sophisticated trading software even allows you to use charts of stock movements to set buy and sell signals for the stocks you’re keeping an eye on or already trading.

Inverted Hammer Candlestick Pattern Can Make You Rich!

February 27th, 2010 Ahmad Hassam No comments

There are many candlestick trend reversal and trend continuation patterns. These candlestick patterns can help you confirm a trend reversal or a trend continuation. Inverted Hammer Candlestick Pattern is an important trend reversal pattern that can give accurate signal on trend reversal. However, this pattern occurs rarely but when it does, it means that the trend will reverse itself soon.

Now an inverted hammer can get formed in a downtrend as well as an uptrend. In a downtrend, the first day is a bearish candle signalling that the bears are still in control of the market. An Inverted Hammer is a quite rare pattern as the price action needed to produce it does not takes place frequently. But if it does, it is an important signal that you shouldn’t ignore.

How to identify an Inverted Hammer? An Inverted Hammer has a very small body at the bottom of the candle with a long wick on the upside. It looks just like an inverted hammer! What this means is the high of the trading day is way above the body. So most of the trading took place close to the small area near the low. Now, this low serves as the support for the coming days.

But before trading on an inverted hammer signal, you need for the confirmation on the following day. Now, if you find the open of the next day higher than the low of the previous day, the inverted hammer pattern formed last day was a true pattern. You can now trade this inverted hammer pattern by placing a stop close to the open of the day.

Now, when an inverted hammer is formed in an uptrend, it means that the uptrend is about to reverse itself into a downtrend. On the first day, you will find the usual bullish candle signalling that the bulls are in control of the market. This is followed by a gap opening and more buying.

But at some time, the bears take hold of the market. The bears start to push the prices lower. The close is equal to or very close to the low of the day. When you spot a bearish inverted hammer, you can sell or go short by placing the stop close to the open of the second or the signal day.

Once, you have placed the stop, you have limited your risk. In case, the market moves in the direction as anticipated, you make a nice profit. Placing a stop loss is very important in trading risk management. If the subsequent price movements do not confirm the inverted hammer, the stop loss comes into action and takes you out of the market at an acceptable loss. If you are an aggressive trader, you can place the stop loss close to the high of the inverted hammer.

Trading Futures Like The Turtles

February 27th, 2010 Ahmad Hassam No comments

A futures contract is a security just like a stock or a bond with some similarities and many differences. A stock gives you the right to own a small part of the company while a bond makes you a lender to a company or the government.

Futures market is a highly regulated market with the CFTC responsible for its regulation. Buyers and sellers don’t come in direct contact with each other. In between is the Central Clearing House that enforces the contract reducing the risk of party default! Futures contract as the name implies is a binding contract between two parties for the delivery of a commodity or an asset or even a financial instrument at some future date between the buyer and seller of that contract.

Futures market is the backbone of the whole sale and retail commodity market ranging from oil, wheat, corn, heating oil, meat, cattle, soybeans and other foodstuff. So you can well imagine the importance of the futures market. Futures market serves the purpose of hedging and speculation.

Now, futures contracts are by design time bound and expire at a fixed date. These contracts get regulated through a central clearing hours so the risk of one party backing out of the contract is minimal. This limits the time and risk exposure experienced by hedgers and speculators.

Now you can easily trade these contracts by opening an account with a FCM brokerage and deposit an amount to start trading these contracts on margin. The minimum amount with most of the brokers is something like $5,000 but it can less too! Brokers allow leverage upto 10:1 when you trade on margin. Compare this to the leverage of 2:1 allowed by stock brokers. In the last decades, electronic trading has become highly popular among the traders. This includes futures as well.

In US, open outcry trading still takes place during the official hours at the different futures exchanges. However, most of these futures contracts also get traded electronically. GLOBEX allows electronic trading of most of these futures contracts 23 hours each day. Electronic trading provides a more level playing field, more price transparency and lower transaction costs.

CME, NYMEX and CBOT are the three most important Futures Exchanges. GLOBEX allows you to trade most of the contracts that get traded on these exchanges. The popular contracts that get traded on GLOBEX are the E-minis like the S&P 500, NASDAQ 100 and Dow. You can also trade E-mini gold futures as well as crude oil futures on GLOBEX.

You can find GLOBEX quotes on CNBC and Bloomberg! Now, GLOBEX trading continues during the night after the official close of CME, CBOT and NYMEX at 4:15 PM EST. However, overnight trading can be thin and highly volatile as compared to the official hours.

These quotes are real time. There are many contracts that you can trade and the possibilities of making money in futures trading are immense. Imagine the prices of crude oil going up again just like what happened in the summer of 2008! Futures trading can be highly profitable but risky as well. Before you dabble in them, you should paper trade these contracts for at least a month just to get a feel of how to do it.

Want To Become Day Trader? Here’s The Key To Making Money

January 24th, 2010 Sam Lockwood No comments

Day trading is an excellent way to make good money, but if you’ve heard it’s easy or a form of passive income, you’ve heard wrong. You need to put some work into it.

Day trading stocks and commodities is really a highly lucrative job. Just like a regular job, it needs you to have a number of traits in order to succeed, as well as a number of firmly ingrained habits.

The first thing you’ll absolutely need is a good sense of time. The kind of person who’s not good in the mornings or needs that morning jolt from coffee will only make themselves miserable trying day trading. That’s because the best time to decide how you’ll be playing the market today is right before opening bell. That’s at nine in the morning in New York and six in the morning in California. If you’re living in Hawaii or Alaska, it’s five am. Of course, just being an early riser isn’t enough. You’ll also need to have a good internal clock and a solid scheduling system.

Habit number two is maintaining a good set of quantitative thinking skills. You can make or lose money if you’re just running off your basic hunches, but to really do well, you have to make informed choices. That means reading, understanding, and dealing with numbers without thinking about them consciously. You’ll need to be numerate and be able to manipulate numbers in your head with enough skill to tell if you’re looking at a blip or a trend, then act accordingly.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you have to be a trained mathematician. You can learn how to deal with numbers correctly, even it’s never been your strong suit. Some numerical skills can almost become second nature once you get going.

Successful day traders also have to have patience and skills of observation, and combine them with a short memory. This can be pretty hard to learn, since you have to avoid feeling disappointment when you don’t catch a stock at the top, or when you lose money because the short you’re intending just never shows up. Don’t get caught up in things when you lose, and don’t allow winning to take over your life, either.

Dedicated research is habit number four. You won’t have to consume accounting statements the way someone in long term conventional investing does, but you have to constantly be getting new data and analysis. You also have to be proactive about your buying and selling, and make fast, accurate judgments, then act on them just as quickly. The only way to make the correct decision is to have the right research. Just don’t let it paralyze you.

Remember that a lot of the research and analysis won’t need to be done by you directly. The best traders always have a number of tools at their disposal, as well as many different data services and research sources ready to access.

If day trading appeals to you as a new career, you’ll have to build up a support network. You’ll need to find some investors willing to help you apply leverage, as well as a good broker.

If you believe that you have all these skills, day trading offers an exciting and fascinating way to make a huge income. It’s a job you can honestly consider fun, and if you have what it takes, it’ll be pretty enriching, too.

Hopefully this day trading advice motivates you to enter into this exciting venture. Click Here to discover a proven trading strategy that is making plenty of people great money!

Easy Penny Stocks Tips You Can Use To Cash In!

January 24th, 2010 Sam Lockwood No comments

Penny stocks have been around since the 19th century, and they’ve also been a big part of the American investment system ever since they developed. This era is actually the one that gave these stocks their names, as modern penny stocks cost far more than a penny. They average between ten cents and five dollars apiece in modern money. Why don’t we take a look at some of the risks you’ll encounter when dealing in penny stocks, then ways they can help you turn a profit.

Penny stocks are share offerings made to investors by companies that are just too small or new to have a listing with the major stock exchanges. They have significant growth potential, and the initial investment can be quite small, but you run the risk of encountering a pump and dump scheme. Like anything else dealing in the OTC (over the counter) market, the buyer should beware.

Choosing penny stocks reasonably means that you need to have an independent appraisal of the company’s business model. Much like buying shares of any other kind of publicly traded company, it’s necessary to understand everything about the company. That means knowing what they do, what they make, what products are offered, how their business model works and who their major competitors are.

One of the things that makes penny stocks so appealing is the fact that most of the businesses offering them are extremely simple. One typical kind of penny stock is a mining company that profits only when the price of the material it extracts goes above a certain level. There are also some oil exploration stocks that are valued in the same way.

Penny stocks are considered a high risk vehicle, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission. The risks you may encounter with these stocks include indirect and incomplete reporting of financial information, limited liquidity and even fraud. People using a day trading strategy can find that penny stocks that are in sudden demand create enormous volatility movements. Because of this, it’s hard to short sell penny stocks.

The financial reporting guidelines on penny stocks are actually pretty loose. Unlike the national exchanges, not much is required of companies that list this way – in fact, sometimes these stocks will just de list for a few days! In the investment type called Pink Sheets, penny stocks have nearly no regulatory requirements at all, including few to no minimum accounting standards or reporting guidelines.

Because there are no generally accepted standards or standardization for penny stocks, they’re an area that’s extremely vulnerable to fraud and manipulation. People can pose as independent observers, then run up the price of penny stocks. All they have to do then is de list it, leaving buyer with nothing in what’s classically called a pump and dump scheme.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you should never invest in penny stocks. There are lots of real, legitimate startup companies out there, and they need to have a good place to get up and running. If you’re able to pick a winner, you’ll get an impressive return.

If you’re someone who can spot companies that have a lot of promise, you could end up with a big payback. Even if you lose on eighty percent of your picks, the twenty-five percent that do work out, will be enough to make up for the rest.

The Easy Way To Make Money In The Stock Market!

January 19th, 2010 Grant Dougan No comments

Penny stocks are an exciting investment opportunity. Some investors stay away from these types of investments since they think they are full of risk. In reality, there is so much opportunity to make money with penny stocks if you know what you need to look for.

Any share under $2 is what I view as a penny share. When I choose a stock to purchase, I search for a company that is up and coming. There are many businesses whose stock is priced less than $2 because they have had troubles. Instead of investing in these companies, I look for newer companies that are growing. By zoning in on these organizations I can set myself for large profits in the future when they start earning profits..

So how can you pick the businesses to purchase? This, of course, is the most important question!

Examining the industry that the business is in is an important first stage. Think about if a new business into the industry can succeed based on the competition that exists. This involves a top-down view of the industry to ensure that the organization is involved in an area that allows them the potential to be successful.

And of course you want to analyze the business itself. I always like to see a business that differentiates themselves from the competition in some manner. Make an effort to locate companies that either offer a unique product or compete on some other factor such as price. It’s definitely a wise choice to look for a company that provides something original and sticks out from the other competitors in some manner.

You should also take a look at the financials of the organization, but don’t panic if you notice that they have no net income. Most up and coming companies don’t make positive income in the beginning years. Nevertheless I need to make sure that the company has access to funds or credit so that they can continue to grow.

As a final note, it’s always a good idea to be able to locate updates on the organization. By having the ability to read periodic updates from the organization, either on a website or some type of newsletter, you have the ability to understand exactly what is happening with the organization.

Once you start searching for penny stocks and investing in them, it’s easy to find yourself earning some massive profits. There’s fantastic money to be earned when you understand how to analyze these shares.
